SCHADS award pay calculator

Work out one shift under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 (MA000100), line by line. Every penalty band, hourly rate and amount names the clause it came from and anything the calculator cannot price is said out loud instead of guessed.

Covers: Home care workers under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services award, in the disability and aged care home care streams.

Rates in this calculator: 1 July 2025 and 1 October 2025 and 1 July 2026 and 1 December 2026 versions. The date you enter picks the one in force.

Calculator

The example: Friday 9 October 2026, 15:00 to 23:00

A part-time disability home care worker, engaged as a shiftworker, finishing at 11pm on a Friday. The whole shift is an afternoon shift, so the loading applies to every ordinary hour of it, not just the hours after 8pm.

Employment type

A finish earlier than the start is read as the next morning.

Leave the break time empty and it is taken from the middle of the shift.

Assumptions in this figure

  • Priced as the only shift in its week, so overtime for passing 38 hours in a week is not counted. Add the week up before relying on a single shift.
What this calculator does not price and why
  • Social and community services employees have two sets of classifications: general work (3 hour part-time and casual minimum, clause 10.5(a); full-time overtime at time and a half for 3 hours, clause 28.1(a)(ii)) and disability services work (2 hour minimum, clause 10.5(b); 2 hours at time and a half, clause 28.1(a)(i)). The engine prices a member by one classification, so a shift of disability services work by a general employee must be recorded under the matching disability services work classification or priced by hand.
  • Social and community services levels 2 to 8 and crisis accommodation are paid the Equal Remuneration Order rate (PR525485, clause 15 Note 2), which forms the ordinary rate for all purposes. The Queensland transitional pay equity arrangements for employers that are not constitutional corporations (clause 15 Note 1) are not applied.
  • The minimum rates for aged care home care employees translated from the earlier classification structure or from the Nurses Award (clause 17.2 note, Schedule G) are not applied. Check those employees against Schedule G by hand.
  • Rates move from the first full pay period starting on or after the operative date (1 July each year, 1 October 2025 for aged care home care and 1 December 2026 for disability home care). With a workspace pay cycle set (Settings, Award) the engine applies that rule; without one it switches on the operative date itself.
  • Work by a day worker outside 6am to 8pm is overtime (clauses 28.1(a) and 28.1(b)(vi)) at rates this engine does not apply; such shifts are refused. Record shiftworkers as such to price their afternoon and night shifts.
  • Broken shifts (allowance and the 12 hour span, clause 25.6, for home care and disability services work), sleepovers (clause 25.7), 24 hour care (clause 25.8, home care), excursions and remote work (clauses 25.9, 25.10) are not applied.
  • Overtime is also any work past a full-timer's rostered ordinary hours (clause 28.1(a)). The engine applies the daily limit from the SCHADS shift length arrangement (8 hours by default, clause 25.1(a), or up to 10 by agreement, 25.1(b)) and the 38 hour week.
  • The 12 hour shift around a sleepover (clauses 25.1(c), 28.1(b)(iii)) is not applied.
  • A meal break worked through is paid at overtime until it is taken (clause 27.1(b)); nothing is added automatically.
  • Recall to overtime (2 hour minimum, clause 28.4), the 10 hour rest after overtime (clause 28.3) and the public holiday shift that starts the night before (clause 29.2(c)) are not applied.
  • Allowances (broken shift, sleepover, on call, first aid, vehicle, uniform, laundry) are not applied.
How the figure is worked out

The same five steps a payroll officer takes

The calculator runs the award engine LoggerIQ uses to price shifts, against award content where every rate carries its clause, operative date and the page it was read from.

  1. Find the base rate

The adult hourly rate for the classification, from the award table. For a junior, the junior percentage comes off first, worked out the way that award says to round it.

  2. Cut the shift at every boundary

The shift is split at midnight and at the edge of every penalty window. The unpaid break comes out where it was taken. Hours after midnight on Saturday are Sunday hours, priced as Sunday.

  3. Decide what is overtime

Time past the award’s daily limit for that employment type is overtime, counted from the end of the shift. Where the limit depends on an arrangement the calculator cannot see, it refuses rather than picks.

  4. Price each piece

Each piece takes the highest band in force. Casual figures are the all-inclusive percentages the pay guide publishes, so the casual loading is never added twice. Flat evening and night amounts are added per hour.

  5. Top up and add up

A shift shorter than the minimum engagement is topped up to it. Each hourly rate is rounded to the cent before it is multiplied, so every line reconciles with the pay guide.

Before you rely on it

A general guide, not payroll advice

This calculator prices one shift against minimum award rates. It does not know your enterprise agreement, an individual flexibility arrangement, above-award pay, the rest of the person’s week or allowances. The Fair Work Ombudsman pay guide for MA000100 is the authority (open the pay guide, checked 2 October 2026). If a figure here and the pay guide differ, the pay guide is right and we would like to hear about it at support@loggeriq.io.
