Clubs award pay calculator

Work out one shift under the Registered and Licensed Clubs Award 2020 (MA000058), line by line. Every penalty band, hourly rate and amount names the clause it came from and anything the calculator cannot price is said out loud instead of guessed.

Covers: Registered and licensed clubs: food and beverage, gaming, kitchen, guest service, leisure, security and stores staff.

Rates in this calculator: the version operative from 1 July 2026. A shift dated before then is not priced.

Calculator

The example: Saturday 10 October 2026, 18:00 to 01:30

A casual level 3 on a Saturday night into Sunday. Under this award a casual is paid the same 150% and 175% weekend rates as a permanent, because the loading only lifts weekday hours.

Employment type

Junior rates apply to this classification below the adult age.

A finish earlier than the start is read as the next morning.

Leave the break time empty and it is taken from the middle of the shift.

Assumptions in this figure

  • Priced as the only shift in its week, so overtime for passing 38 hours in a week is not counted. Add the week up before relying on a single shift.
What this calculator does not price and why
  • Rates move from the first full pay period starting on or after 1 July. With a workspace pay cycle set (Settings, Award) the engine applies that rule; without one it switches on the operative date itself.
  • Maintenance and horticultural employees are priced on their own table (clause 24.2): ordinary weekday and Saturday morning hours at 100% (casual 125%), Sunday 200% and public holidays 250%. Their Saturday afternoon hours, their hours outside the 6am to 6pm span and their Saturday hours from 10am are refused, because the engine cannot tell where the 2 hours at 150%, the span overtime or the 4 hour Saturday limit fall.
  • A maintenance and horticultural span of hours widened by up to 1 hour by agreement (clause 15.6(b)) is not applied. Time in the extra hour is refused like any other time outside 6am to 6pm.
  • A full-time maintenance and horticultural employee may work at most 8 ordinary hours on a weekday (clause 15.6(c)). The engine applies the general clause 15.3 rule, so it refuses their weekday shifts between 8 and 9.5 hours although no 9.5 hour arrangement is open to them.
  • Whether the 8 ordinary hour weekday limit for maintenance and horticultural employees (clause 15.6(c)) also binds a casual is not settled against clause 11.4. The engine applies clause 11.4 (overtime past 12 hours), so a casual greenkeeper paid overtime after 8 hours must be priced by hand.
  • The maintenance and horticultural salary arrangement (clause 18.4(b)) is not applied. Price those employees outside the engine.
  • Maintenance and horticultural paid tea breaks (2 of 10 minutes, clause 17.6(a)) and the paid crib and meal breaks around overtime (clause 17.6(b) and (c)) are not applied.
  • Junior maintenance and horticultural tradespersons (levels 4 and 5) are paid the adult rate, which is how the pay guide treats a junior with a trade qualification. Schedule B.4.2 of the award prints junior figures for them; the adult rate is never less.
  • Club managers and management trainees (levels 6 to 13 of the manager stream, often salaried under clause 18.4) are not in this content.
  • Apprentices and trainees are not in this content.
  • A full-time employee's daily ordinary hours follow the Clubs full-time hours arrangement: 8 hours a day (clause 15.3(a), (b) and (d)) or 9.5 hours over four days (clause 15.3(c)). Until it is recorded a full-time shift longer than 8 hours and up to 9.5 is refused with a prompt. The 152 hours over 4 weeks arrangement (clause 15.3(e)), with overtime from the 21st day (clause 15.5(b)), is not offered: price those employees by hand.
  • A part-time employee is on overtime past their rostered hours (clause 10.13(b)(ii)), up to the 12 hour daily maximum (clause 10.7(b)). Shifts are priced against the published roster for the day; with no roster a part-time shift longer than 8 hours is refused with a prompt to roster it.
  • A casual bingo caller is owed 3 hours minimum and a casual fitness instructor 1 hour (clause 11.5). The engine applies the general 2 hour minimum.
  • Junior liquor service employees are paid the adult rate (clause 13.1). Leave their date of birth unset to pay the adult rate.
  • Christmas Day on a weekend that is not a public holiday (150% plus a substitute day, clause 24.3(c)) and the 150% public holiday arrangement with a day in lieu (clause 24.3(b)) are not applied.
  • Overtime on a rostered day off (200% with a 4 hour minimum, clause 22.3(e)) and the 10 hour rest after overtime (clause 22.5) are not applied.
  • A missed meal break is paid at 150% from the end of 5 hours (clause 17.2), but whether that stacks on a weekend penalty is not settled by the award text (clause 24.5), so nothing is added automatically.
  • Allowances (first aid, meal, uniform, tools) are not applied. Where the first aid allowance is paid, the pay guide itself says its rates do not apply.
How the figure is worked out

The same five steps a payroll officer takes

The calculator runs the award engine LoggerIQ uses to price shifts, against award content where every rate carries its clause, operative date and the page it was read from.

  1. Find the base rate

The adult hourly rate for the classification, from the award table. For a junior, the junior percentage comes off first, worked out the way that award says to round it.

  2. Cut the shift at every boundary

The shift is split at midnight and at the edge of every penalty window. The unpaid break comes out where it was taken. Hours after midnight on Saturday are Sunday hours, priced as Sunday.

  3. Decide what is overtime

Time past the award’s daily limit for that employment type is overtime, counted from the end of the shift. Where the limit depends on an arrangement the calculator cannot see, it refuses rather than picks.

  4. Price each piece

Each piece takes the highest band in force. Casual figures are the all-inclusive percentages the pay guide publishes, so the casual loading is never added twice. Flat evening and night amounts are added per hour.

  5. Top up and add up

A shift shorter than the minimum engagement is topped up to it. Each hourly rate is rounded to the cent before it is multiplied, so every line reconciles with the pay guide.

Before you rely on it

A general guide, not payroll advice

This calculator prices one shift against minimum award rates. It does not know your enterprise agreement, an individual flexibility arrangement, above-award pay, the rest of the person’s week or allowances. The Fair Work Ombudsman pay guide for MA000058 is the authority (open the pay guide, checked 2 October 2026). If a figure here and the pay guide differ, the pay guide is right and we would like to hear about it at support@loggeriq.io.
